SMART HYDROGELS FOR DRUG DELIVERY-A REVIEW OF RECENT ADVANCES AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS
Abstract
Smart hydrogels are intelligent materials that can respond to environmental stimuli to control drug release1. This review article discusses recent advances in smart hydrogels for drug delivery, including thermoresponsive1, pH-responsive, light-responsive, and enzyme-responsive systems. We highlight their applications in cancer treatment, diabetes management, wound healing, and neurological disorders. The advantages of smart hydrogels, including improved efficacy and reduced side effects, are also discussed. Finally, we address the challenges and future directions in this field.1,2
